2008 ESPYs

So the nominees for the 2008 ESPYs were announced yesterday and I must say I'm a bit surprised at some of the nominees, but I understand why the people at ESPN chose those athletes. Here are some of the big time categories and my picks to win said categories.

Best Male Athlete
  • Tiger Woods (golf)
  • Tom Brady (NFL)
  • Kobe Bryant (NBA)
  • Alex Rodriguez (MLB)
Who I want to win: Tom Brady because he broke the record for the most touchdowns thrown in a season. I mean, to throw 50 touchdowns in a season in today's NFL is a huge accomplishment. Who do I think is going to win? Tiger Woods because everyone is like in love with him now after his win at the US Open.
Best Female Athlete
  • Lorena Ochoa (golf)
  • Danica Patrick (Indy car racing)
  • Candace Parker (NCAA, WNBA)
  • Lindsey Vonn (skiier)
Who I want to win: It's a toss-up between Danica Patrick and Candace Parker. They both had emotional runs to get to their respective championships. Danica won a race in a sport dominated by males, granted, the race wasn't won in the US, but I don't think it should matter. Candace, on the other hand, led her Lady Vols to the national championship after suffering an injury to her shoulder. Then, Parker was the number one overall pick in the WNBA draft to the LA Sparks. Who do I think is going to win? It's a toss-up between Danica Patrick and Candace Parker.
Best Team
  • NY Giants (Super Bowl Champions)
  • Boston Red Sox (World Series Champions)
  • Boston Celtics (NBA Champions)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (Men's NCAA Basketball Champions)
  • Tennessee Lady Volunteers (Women's NCAA Basketball Champions)
  • Detroit Red Wings (NHL Champions)
Who I want to win: The Boston Red Sox because they're my favorite sports team regardless of my loyalties to other teams. They came back from being down 3-1 to the Cleveland Indians in the ALCS and they swept the Colorado Rockies to win the World Series. Who do I think is going to win? Unfortunately, the NY Giants because they pulled off the upset over the New England Patriots.
Best Breakthrough Athlete
  • Stephen Curry (NCAA)
  • Adrian Peterson (NFL)
  • Kyle Busch (NASCAR)
  • Ana Ivanovic (Tennis)
Who I want to win: Ana Ivanovic of course. I think she has more potential to be the best at her sport than any of these males at their respective sports. She is currently number one in the world and I think that has to count for something with the voters. Also, I think since it's going to be mainly males voting, I think it's going to help her a little bit. Who do I think is going to win? Adrian Peterson because he had an amazing season for the Vikings.
The following are my picks of who I WANT to win not who I think is going to win

Best Championship Performance
- Josh Beckett in MLB Playoffs
Best Record-Breaking Performance
- Brett Favre
Biggest Upset - Appalachian State over Michigan

I really don't feel like picking the other categories because I just don't watch all those other sports. I already voted at espys.tv for all categories but I just don't want to type anymore. I'm lazy like that.

Check this song out:

Brad Paisley, Alison Kraus - Whiskey Lullaby

One of the best country songs in the history of music. Those two artists mashed up perfectly. Alison and Brad made this song a classic and the video is a tear-jerker.
