Am I Good Or What?

I hoped all four of the women's seeds at Wimbledon would lose before the semis and they did. In fact, they lost before the quarterfinals which means Ana Ivanovic is still the number one woman in the world regardless of her absolutely dissappointing run at Wimbledon. Although, I'm not sure if Elena Dementieva can become number one if she wins Wimbledon. I don't think she can, but if she scrapes out wins she may as well be the new number one.
Also, I said Spain would beat Germany in the Euro Final, and they did with a magnificent soft-touch goal by Fernando "El NiƱo" Torres in the 33rd minute. I said Spain would win 2-1, I guess I was wrong about that. I'm still awesome. So a new chapter begins tonight when the Red Sox and the Rays meet once again. The last series they shared, they got into a brawl which resulted in suspensions and whatnot. Let's go Sox, take the series and the AL East first place from those Rays.

Don't Drink And Text

Well, that's not exactly the text I sent my friend Sara. I sent her the most incoherent text you can think of. I think I tried to tell I was drunk and felt like shit, but it didn't come out the way I planned. The text I sent her went something like this "Im drumk flek siht fcuk stih gag8". I always save all the texts I send just in case something like this ever happens. At least I didn't ask her for sex, though. So the Euro 2008 final between the national squads of Germany and Spain is in about an hour and a half or so. As a sports fan, this is extremely exciting because it's like a smaller world cup, but it's still a huge deal.

Like I said before, I'm pulling for Spain because I think Spain has a better offensive unit. Also, the fact that Michael Ballack, Germany's captain, is questionable for the match is a huge factor in my decision.

But, we'll see when all is said and done.

Wimbledon Talk

So, as I posted yesterday, Ana Ivanovic lost in her third round match against Jie Zheng which means that her number one ranking is in jeopardy. Jelena Jankovic, who is ranked #3 at the moment, has relatively easier means of becoming number one. Svetlana Kuznetsova (ranked #4)is the other female who can become number one.

The easiest way for either Jankovic or Kuznetsova to be the #1 woman in the world is to be the champion at Wimbledon. There will be no doubt about who will be number one if either of them wins.

What Jankovic needs to do:
  • win Wimbledon
  • reach the semis but Kuznetsova cannot reach the final
  • reach the final and loses to anyone but Kuznetsova

What Kuznetsova needs to do:

  • win Wimbledon
  • reach the final and loses to anyone but Jankovic

I know I'm gonna sound like a horrible person but I don't want either Jankovic or Kuznetsova to become number one. I want Ivanovic to still be number one because, although she had a dissappointing run at Wimbledon, I know she has the potential to win the whole thing. She may not have done it this year but I see a Wimbledon win in the not so distant future. I also see a career grand slam in the horizon. I have no doubt in my mind that she can be a force to be reckoned with for years to come. I mean, she's only 20 years old.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I really hope the top four seeds in the women's side are gone by the semis. I know it's probably not going to happen, but it's the only way to know that Ana will still be number one.

Jankovic is going to have a really tough time in the round of 16 against Tamarine Tanasugarn. She really hurt herself during the first set of her match earlier today against 17 year-old Caroline Wozniacki. She seemed to have hyper-extended her left leg. It may hurt her in the round of 16, you never know.

Kuznetsova has a history of being a bit of a train-wreck when it comes to the big matches. She may lose her head if she starts to ponder too much about the possibility of becoming number one.

Maybe I'm just being a little too optimistic.

Am I actually going to root for the Williams' sisters after all these years of pure dislike? If they can keep Ana at #1 I'm all for either of them winning. Yes, even you, Serena.

I don't really need to go on about the men's side, do I?

With Novak Djokovic losing to Marat Safin in his second round match there is no one that can stop yet another Federer/Nadal final. I hope for another classic Wimbledon final between the two. Please grant me another 5-setter between these amazing male players.

My pick for the men's title: I don't think this is going to be a surprise to anyone when I say Roger Federer is going to win (again). Federer over Nadal in 5 sets.

Sports Talk

So as I was watching the NBA Draft last night I kept wondering why Memphis guard Chris Douglas-Roberts kept sliding down. I can't believe he was picked #40 by the New Jersey Nets. In my opinion they got two amazing steals - #10 Brook Lopez (Stanford) and CDR. They definitely had the best draft last night.
Also, yesterday the Spain national squad beat Russia for the other spot in the Euro 2008 Final against Germany. Sunday afternoon is when all of this will be decided. In my opinion, Spain has a more potent squad although David Villa will not be playing Sunday. In reality that should give Germany a break, but Spain also has Guiza who was the Spanish Liga maximum scorer. I say a 2-1 win for Spain. I may be completely wrong, though.
Today my favorite female tennis player, Ana Ivanovic, lost her third round match at Wimbledon to Jin Zheng 6-1 and 6-4. Ivanovic is currently ranked #1 in the world while Zheng is ranked #133. Nothing was working for Ana and I have a feeling this began in her second round match against Nathalie Dechy when she saved 2 match points in the 2nd set and finally came back to win the 3rd 10-8. I think that marathon match really took a toll on Ana's game.

After a disappointing day for Ana I hope she rebounds in time for the US Open so she can make a run. I don't know if she's still going to be ranked #1 after this devastating loss at Wimbledon. Specially if either Jelena Jankovic and/or Svetlana Kuznetsova make it to the finals or win. Does this mean I'm pulling for the Williams sisters? It's possible. Them or anyone but Jankovic/Kuznetsova would be Ana's best chance at keeping her #1 world ranking.

First Post

So this is my first post. It's so weird because I said I would never do a blog or anything, but here I am.

I guess I should say a bit about me.

Well, I'm 19.
I live in Virginia.
I watch a lot of sports.
Like watching ESPN is my life.
I love going online and looking for new music.
I guess you could say sports and music are the main components of my life.
I love New England sports.
But mostly the Boston Red Sox.
I also like the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers besides the New England Patriots.
I really enjoy Virginia Tech football and Duke Basketball.
I love watching tennis. Mostly the Grand Slams (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open). My favorite tennis players are both from Serbia: Ana Ivanovic and Novak Djokovic.

I listen to alternative rock, country, rap/hip-hop, r&b, and whatever you put inside my head.

I watch shows like Gossip Girl, The O.C., One Tree Hill and whatnot.
I also watch reality shows on MTV.

Yeah, that's me in a nutshell.
